Kolkata Doctor Rape Case : Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, emphasized on Monday that she had “never offered money” to the family of the victim of a rape in Kolkata. She also disclosed that during the protests at RG Kar hospital, Kolkata CP Vineet Goyal made a resignation offer. Speaking at the same time as the Supreme Court heard a suo motu plea on the subject, the CBI was ordered by the court to provide a new status report by the end of the following week.
“This is just slander; I have never offered money to the family of a deceased doctor. I informed the parents of the deceased doctor that our administration supports them if they wished to take action in their daughter’s honor. Kolkata CP After RG Kar’s protests, Vineet Goyal offered to step down, but we need a legal expert.
While addressing the continuing protests over the rape and death of a Kolkata doctor, she also accused the Centre and “some Left parties” of plotting against the Trinamool Congress government.
Some individuals are profiting from the unrest in their neighboring country. They’ve forgotten that Bangladesh and India are two different countries,” she continued.
The CBI was instructed by the Supreme Court to provide a new report on the case by September 17 earlier on Monday. The supreme court further emphasized that once doctors report back to work by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, no further action should be taken against them. But the court pointed out that if the state government didn’t show up for work, it wouldn’t be able to hold them accountable. The Supreme Court warned that if they were to miss any more, they might face disciplinary action.
The West Bengal police had already been questioned by the Supreme Court on a number of matters pertaining to the rape and muder case. The slain doctor’s body was turned over to her family, the court noted, and there was a failure to shield medical personnel from a mob attack, among other purported oversights.
